LEIMAY PRESENTING SERIES 2015: SOAK
Two female figures lie in opposite directions on a wooden wave made of two sarcophagi, like twins joined through the hair on a pillow of sand.They are the morning and evening of life, and their long hair brushes up against the sands, making it sift steadily down through the hour glass, the void between them.The figure in the distance, watching over the scene, is both a contemplating spectator and an active director, evoking Michelangelo’s work in the Sagrestia Nuova in Florence — the Tomb of Lorenzo di Piero de’ Medici with Dusk and Dawn — which was a point of departure for this piece.The core of this work, though conceptual and stratified, remains in life and not about it. The Hair of Sand summons actors and audience alike to presence through the experience of the delicacy of movement and time.
