In Parts: Moving (like the “Bride of Frankenstein”)

Laura Shapiro

LEIMAY PRESENTING SERIES 2010: FERMENT

In Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, Dr. Frankenstein abandons creating a mate for the monster. He puts the bones and body parts of his unfinished creation into a basket and sets it out to sea. The solo begins with the image of the bones and body parts self-creating in the water.

Laura Shapiro is a choreographer, performer and teacher–of chi kung and pilates as well as dance. Her new group work, Coal Miners’ Daughters, will be presented in September, during the American Dance Guild Performance Festival at Manhattan Movement Arts Center, and in December, during Women in Dance at the 92nd Street Y: History in the Making. “Bride of Frankenstein” is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA)
